KICK-OFF FOR 2014 INNER CIRCLE OF TWELVE LUNCHEON
This intimate gathering was attended by some of Miami’s most prestigious community leaders and philanthropists, including the 2014 Inner Circle of Twelve Honorees: Sarah Arison, Betty Brandt, Alicia Cervera, Teresita Haskett, Stella Holmes, Christina Martin, Laura Munilla, Yuri Rossi, Pamela Silva Conde, Debra Strochak, Marielena Villamil and Vivian Williams and the Philanthropic Chair: Mary Anne Shula. The Inner Circle of Twelve Luncheon will be held on Friday, October 24, at the InterContinental Miami.
WPBT2 HOSTS PREVIEW SCREENING FOR MAKERS: WOMEN WHO MAKE AMERICA
WPBT2 hosted a preview screening of the new PBS series Makers: Women Who Make America on Tuesday, September 23 to a full house at the Grove Isle Hotel and Spa in Miami. Makers is a six- part series profiling the impact women have made over the past 50 years in the industries of comedy, politics, space, war, business and Hollywood.
Lori Silvers, chair of WPBT2’s Board of Directors, honored the South Florida Makers, women who make a difference in our community including: Michelle Bernstein, Margaret Callahan, Mayda Cisneros, Helen Aguirre Ferré, Fanny Hanono, Susan R. Hantman, Stella Holmes, Phillis Oeters, Roberta Ruggiero, Laurie Silvers, Young Song, and Jennifer Valoppi.
Friends of St. Jude Miami, the young professionals group dedicated to raising awareness and funding for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®, and chaired by Jeb Bush Jr., hosted the seventh annual International Dermatology “It’s All About the Kids” event, presented by the Andrés Asion Foundation. This year, St. Jude recognized respected actor, producer and philanthropist, Eduardo Verastegui with the “Friends of St. Jude Ambassador Award.”
The Consulate General of Argentina in Miami organized a banquet to commemorate The First National Government, a patriotic holiday. It featured a presentation by the Selección Nacional de Tango as well as a speech by the consul general, Ambassador Miguel Talento. The party took place at the Marriott Marquis hotel on Saturday, May 24th, culminating in a toast at midnight to bring in the holiday on the 25th.
West Encounters East Documentary Filmmaker Stella Holmes was recognized as a Miracle Maker at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Miami’s 2014 Miracle Makers Luncheon and Fashion Show. The designation celebrates those who, by virtue of their good deeds and energetic force, strive to make a positive impact on the lives of children in their community.
Stella Holmes is one of this city’s great influencers. A woman with tremendous vision who is unafraid to take risk, Ms. Holmes spearheads ambitious projects that bring cultures together. In recent years, she has dedicated herself to documentary filmmaking and has seen tremendous success. Her first production, West Encounters East (WEE), has been recognized with two important industry accolades.
The documentary was named a Silver winner in the 35th Annual Telly Awards, and Ms. Holmes received the 2014 Brazilian International Press Award in the Cinema and Film category.
In anticipation of WPBT2’s encore presentation at 10 pm on Friday, May 9, SocialMiami sat down with Ms. Holmes to learn what makes her creativity tick and why Miami is the city she calls home.
To celebrate the October opening of The Hollywood Costume exhibition in Los Angeles, the Academy invited Jum Nakao to create a piece inspired by the costumes of Marie Antoinette.
Friday, June 13, 2014 – The documentary film series West Encounters East ® is a remarkable journey that explores the Japanese diaspora to Latin America through the eyes of artists whose work emerges from the Asian-Latin American cultural mix. Created by Executive Producer Stella Holmes with Producer Linda Corley, the series focuses on the encounter between both civilizations, that is now over a century old.
